Elmer, former head of the subsidiary in the Cayman Islands Bank Julius Baer, was arrested on Saturday risk of destruction of evidence and strong suspicion of guilt, his lawyer said Garden Teething Blather, cited by the Swiss agency ATS.

The lawyer said his client would appeal against this decision before the cantonal court in Zurich.

The former banker, 55, was sentenced Wednesday to a fine by the court in Zurich for repeated violation of bank secrecy.

Fired in 2002 for his employer, one of the first private banks in Switzerland, Elmer took many internal documents that gave the Swiss newspaper in 2007 to WikiLeaks.
